Crissi Cochrane
This Saturday, my virtual concert for Bluesfest Windsor premiered live on YouTube! It was so exciting to finally share this big project with you!
At the start of the month, Jeff Burrows reached out to us to see if Mike, myself, and two other artists from the Soul City Music Co-op - Madeline Doornaert and Dane Roberts - would be willing to record some live performances for the Bluesfest’s Yunity Front Porch Party series. Of course, we were completely honoured and thrilled to be invited to collaborate with a massive, beloved local festival, and quickly agreed.
In the three weeks that followed, we turned around more than 3 hours of content, filmed with two cameras, recorded with professional studio audio, and capturing 10-12 songs from each of us four artists. Mike was responsible for filming and recording the performances (while I did my best to entertain our toddler and keep her from shouting, since the mics we used were fairly sensitive), and then, it was my job to edit everything. I think all in all, we probably put in about 30 hours on this project. Phew! The first week was especially stressful, because there was construction happening on our street and we were filming on our porch, and we had to re-do our entire first day of filming because we had been filming in a format that was too high-quality for our computers to actually process. Yikes. But it was a great learning experience, and I’m so proud of the content that we produced.
Dane and Madeline’s episode aired on Saturday, July 18, and my episode with Mike just aired this past Saturday, July 25. You can watch both of them on the Bluesfest Windsor YouTube channel.
I’ll also be releasing some cuts from my concert on my own YouTube channel over the coming weeks. I’m sharing “Brother She’s Gone” today on my YouTube and Facebook pages. I was pretty excited when I woke up this morning to a nice handful of positive comments on the YouTube video. A great way to start the week!
