Women Of Music + Recording

Thank you to all who attended the Women Of Music concert last weekend in Windsor. I couldn’t stop smiling all night long. It felt so good to be back in action.

And now that the cobwebs are shaken off, I’m officially recording a new EP! Last week during baby naps (and while my eldest watched Paw Patrol) I finished scratch tracks for four songs, plus two more are in production as well.

This maternity leave - 8 months long - has been the longest break I’ve ever taken from music in my life. Not just from performing, but I did virtually no recording and very little songwriting too. I was worried that such a long hiatus would make me lose my creativity and/or my place in the music community, but those things didn’t happen, and instead, I feel like I’m enjoying things that used to seem a little scary - like performing in a new place that I couldn’t picture in my mind - or tedious, like recording. I used to dread recording, the agonizing quest for perfection, trying to create perfect conditions to manifest something to be forever preserved on a recording - ugh. I’d always end up so frustrated. But now it just feels like a productive playtime, and so emotionally nourishing, it puts me in a good mood all day. ☀️
