"Drive All Night" Music Video Returns
Crissi Cochrane
As of today, I’ve decided to re-publish the music video for “Drive All Night” over on YouTube. You can now watch the music video, the behind-the-scenes video, and the live video (which has remained public since it was first released).
Around the time that I was finishing up production of my album Little Sway, I did the thing that I often do when I’m trying to distance myself from my earlier work, and I went around scrubbing that earlier work from the public eye, which meant switching the “Drive All Night” music video to private. I didn’t like the tender, unformed sound of my more youthful voice.
I forgot about the video for a long time, until this past weekend, when I saw an interview with filmmaker Gavin Michael Booth, who created this music video. In this interview, he talked about his best and worst years, saying that 2012 was his best year, when he produced about 50 music videos, including “Drive All Night”.
Since Mike and I have been trying our hand at making our own music videos lately (my “Can We Go Back” music video debuts on August 14! So excited), I decided to re-watch “Drive All Night” - and right away, I knew I had to make this video public again.
Now that I’ve released two full albums that I’m really proud of, and a number of singles and other projects, I no longer feel like I need to distance myself from the way I sang things almost ten years ago. And besides - my goodness, the video is AMAZING. It captures the beginning of my relationship with Mike - our long-distance love, writing letters, keeping busy while we’re apart. And because the video was split-screen, Gavin basically created two music videos in one. I love seeing these super-cute younger versions of us, watching me do all my favourite things - sewing, baking, reading, biking, playing with our cats - and re-visiting the apartment where we spent our first 100 months together. I also wore SO many different dresses in this video, several of which I sewed myself, which I love because I’ve recently started sewing again and these homemade dresses are back in my wardrobe again (albeit modified for my newer, more “womanly” frame).
This video brings me so much joy and returns to me such fond memories, and I’m glad to finally be sharing it with everybody once again.
