REPLAY: Crissi Cochrane Jazz Night on Facebook Live, April 2, 2020
Crissi Cochrane
Last night, I played my second live-streaming concert on Facebook, over on the Soul City Music Co-op page. I shared my favourite jazz standards and cover tunes, from artists like Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Sam Cooke, Louis Armstrong, Nancy Sinatra… and I even braved a cover of “I Try” by Macy Gray!
You can watch the full replay here - just skip the first 15 minutes or so, which is just our pre-show warm-up with some instrumental music. (Last night, we had some connection issues with one of our cables, so there’s some crunchy audio in the first few minutes of the pre-show until we got things straightened out.)

9:53 - Sunshine Of My Life (Stevie Wonder)
13:24 - Don’t Know Why (Norah Jones)
7:14 - This Year’s Kisses (jazz standard)
21:42 - The Gypsy (Sam Cooke)
27:07 - I Heard Love Is Blind (Amy Winehouse)
32:42 - Lover Man (jazz standard)
38:17 - All Of Me (jazz standard)

These live-streaming concerts have been going super well. We’ve been making more money in one hour from our basement, than we would normally make in 3-4 hours playing live. I imagine these larger donations will taper off once everyone who is willing to donate has already chipped in, and that’s totally fine. We’re doing this partly because of the income, but mostly because we just need to keep playing and maintaining a degree of normalcy.
It looks like we’ll finally be getting our internet upgraded early next week, so my next live-streaming concert should look even sharper! That one will be on April 11, 2020, from 9-10PM ET. I’ll be back to playing my originals, and focusing on the songs that were requested last weekend that I wasn’t able to do. There are a few deep cuts that I’ll have to re-learn!
In the next few weeks, I’m going to begin a new series on the blog, where I delve into the meanings behind each song on my 2020 album, Heirloom. A lot of the songs had very subtle references to other songs by the artists who have influenced me, so I’m really excited to reveal these little Easter eggs in the roots of my writing.
Also, my birthday is coming up on Monday! I’ll be turning 31. I’m hoping we have nice weather, so that I can sit outside with my husband and daughter. I was finally able to get some eggs the last time I went to the grocery store, so I’ll be able to make myself a little cake. Aside from that, all I want to do is maybe take a bath or a nap. Last year was an especially wonderful birthday - I was at a wedding when the clock struck midnight, and all my friends sang me Happy Birthday; my parents were in town and we went took Adeila to the aquatic centre for her first swim, and then I had visits from Mike’s family with lots of lovely gifts and my favourite Indian food for dinner - so I’m totally fine with having more of a low-key birthday this year. BUT if you do want to do me a little kindness, why not follow me on social media? I’m on Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and SoundCloud. 💋
