REPLAY: Crissi Cochrane on Facebook Live, April 30, 2020
Crissi Cochrane
It’s Friday, and the sun is shining. Adeila is asleep, and when she wakes up, I want to play in the backyard until suppertime. Since last night was my live-stream, I have eight days until my next gig, which means, time to think about other things. Time to sleep, and knit, and paint the back steps (in rainbow colours!).
I’ve been doing my best to avoid playing the same songs too often on the live-streams, so last night’s setlist was basically the bottom of the barrel - the songs I rarely play. Which means, it took quite a few hours of practice this week to get them all up to scratch. I played Elliott Smith, Van Morrison, Amy Winehouse, The Beatles, Etta James, Sam Cooke, and a few jazz standards. I also included “I Will Survive,” the first song that I’ve learned in ages, if you don’t count the songs that I’ve been asked to learn for weddings and other gigs. I was a bit nervous about this stream because it’s so much material that I don’t consider my A Game, but I think it overall went super well! I’m especially excited to cut up a clip of “I Will Survive” for my Instagram feed ASAP.
SET LIST:
7:39 - Crazy Love (Van Morrison)
11:26 - Billie’s Blues (Billie Holiday)
15:06 - The Man I Love (jazz stadard)
20:06 - Love Is A Losing Game (Amy WInehouse)
24:47 - Cherry (Amy Winehouse)
28:03 - I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor)
33:52 - A Cottage For Sale (Dinah Washington)
38:58 - Between The Bars (Elliott Smith)
43:03 - A Change Is Gonna Come (Sam Cooke)
47:39 - At Last (Etta James)
53:15 - I Will (The Beatles)
After the stream, we recorded my vocals for a single that I’ll be releasing this summer. I am SO excited about this one. It’s a very different character for my voice, in a much lower part of my register, and I feel that the song is so perfect for the times we’re in.
Alright, I’m off to work on my next commissioned love song! Enjoy the first day of this new month. I hope you have sunny springtime weather, wherever you are!
