Showvember
Crissi Cochrane
I’ve got a bunch of dates coming up in November, and three of them are extra special listening shows, so listen up!
I’ll be opening for folk duo Gathering Sparks at All Saints Church in Scott Hall on November 2, 2019. Ty Sharron and I will be sharing the opening set, songwriter’s circle style - we’ll both be on stage, going back and forth playing tunes.
It’ll be such a treat for me to bask in Ty’s amazing musicianship. He’s been playing electric guitar leads on my album, and he just elevates the calibre of everything with his effortless musicality. It kills me.
I think I might actually dust off some of my folkier tunes for this evening. It’s always fun to dig out some of my tunes that are a little different from what I normally do.
Next up, I’ll be playing with my backing band at Phog! This is a super rare occurrence - it’s only the second time I’ve played with these guys in Windsor this year, and maybe only the third time ever?! Taylor Unis joins me on drums, and Mike Hargreaves on bass. I have SO much more fun playing when I get to be a trio, and the songs just sound SO much better.
We’re actually headlining, with this incredible band, The Lionyls, opening for us. They’ll be in town from Ottawa, promoting their latest record. They are going to be a SUPER tough act to follow, and they should probably be headlining instead.
The third show is actually happening in Toronto - oh my god, I get to do a songwriters’ circle with two of the coolest ladies I know. Mary Stewart was one of my very best friends when we both lived in Halifax together, and now she’s the manager over at Hugh’s Room, where we’ll be sharing the stage. She’s always had this wonderfully charming, coy folk style that is so ladylike and delicious. The third woman is Christina Martin, and she’s just utterly incredible - a force to be reckoned with, always touring and recording and creating amazing content. Her performances leave me completely spellbound. I am going to do my best to deserve to be on stage with these two.
As always, there’s more info about each of these shows at crissicochrane.com/dates.
As a side note - man. I used to get SO nervous about playing shows. So anxious. And I still do sometimes - I know the Toronto one, I’ll be super nervous about, because, somehow, it seems like the farther I travel, the more I feel like I need to DESERVE it. But the thing I’m most anxious about these days is how my little girl is going to do without me. She’s sixteen months old right now, and she’s just starting to be a bit more difficult. So now, I still get to worry about whether or not I’m going to suck or humiliate myself or trip over a cable with my high heels and wipe out on stage, but I can also worry about whether or not I’ll be able to find a babysitter, whether or not I’ll be able to find a back-up babysitter if the first one bails, and what if she just cries the whole night and our babysitter never wants to come back…. Ugh. She’s lucky she’s so darn cute!! I really do want to spend every waking minute with her, when she isn’t screaming at me.
Anyway, come see me at a show if you can, and make my babysitter’s struggle worth it!
