Interview with The AVB Podcast
Crissi Cochrane
On Friday last week, I sat down with A. J. Vanden Berghe for the AVB Podcast, to catch up on the past couple years since our last interview. The episode is out today.
We talked about my transition from acoustic to electric, being a working mom with a flexible schedule, and not being ready to share my attentions with another child yet. We talked a bit about the children’s music I’d like to make someday, and how my songwriting has changed since my custom songs. I talked about how rigorously I prepared for my TEDx talk, and the launch of the new Soul City Music Co-op. We talked about doing it yourself and deciding when NOT to do it yourself, especially in the case of my new album.
We talked about what I was like in school - nerdy and wanting to always have the top mark in the class - and what it was like being the youngest. I talked about coming from blue collar parents and always being realistic about keeping the roof over my head. I talked about how guilty I felt when I finally stopped working a day job and had a lot more free time.
We talked about being on the receiving end of jealousy, and about being jealous too. I explained my almost-involvement with the Wards of Windsor project, and all the things I did when I was making $2-3k a month on Spotify. I talked about how I can’t help but care about my stats on social media, but that I remind myself that these things are secondary to making great art.
It’s a 43 minute episode, so put aside some time or just put it on in the background and enjoy!
